Mendocino County Safe Space Project works with allies, educators, and advocates to create safe spaces where everyone can thrive and be their authentic selves.

MCSSP 2025 Pride Parade in Fort Bragg

Our Mission

MCSSP is committed to creating true allies for the LGBTQIA2S+ community. We recognized that simply displaying a rainbow flag doesn’t guarantee safety, so we developed a series of ally workshops focused on cultural humility.

Our grassroots non-profit organization is driven by a passion for building bridges, engaging the community, and advocating for LGBTQIA+ visibility and inclusion in Mendocino County and beyond.

Our Goals

Through educational programs, local advocacy, and community support, we are building a future rooted in equity, resilience, and belonging for all.

  • Provide accessible education and resources to individuals, families, businesses, institutions, and communities through workshops, coaching, and inclusive signage.

  • Advocate for safer, more affirming environments by working directly with schools, service providers, workplaces, and places of worship.

  • Support families and individuals with free, compassionate guidance around identity, inclusion, and cultural humility.

  • Promote visibility and representation by amplifying LGBTQIA2S+ voices and perspectives throughout our county.

  • Reduce harm and increase community well-being by addressing the root causes of exclusion, stigma, and mental health disparities.

  • Strengthen local allyship by fostering ongoing learning and shared responsibility in creating inclusive spaces.

Our Programs

MCSSP programs are grounded in our belief that access to affirming, informed support for everyone is essential to the well-being of LGBTQIA2S+ people of all ages. From offering student scholarships for graduating seniors to answering the needs of parents looking for support referrals, we strive to build bridges for more resilient and engaged communities.
